South Nation Conservation (SNC) and the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) are teaming up again to give residents free native and naturalized trees this spring. Working with municipalities across the region, the two conservation authorities will hand out a combined 10,000 trees and shrubs in 2026.

“Every tree planted is an investment to protect the future of our watersheds,” said John Mesman, SNC’s Managing Director, Property, Conservation Lands, and Community Outreach. “These annual giveaways help residents build climate resilience and strengthen ecosystems right in their own backyards, while connecting them with broader forest stewardship programs and local tree planting incentives.”

This year marks the 27th annual Tree Giveaway for RRCA and the 8th for SNC, and the 7th year the two authorities have partnered to distribute trees across their shared municipalities.

“A healthy regional tree cover can grow our resilience to flooding, drought, and erosion, while boosting biodiversity and habitat,” said Lisa Van De Ligt, RRCA’s Team Lead, Communications and Stewardship. “We’re grateful for the continued support from our municipalities and sponsors, Enbridge and Ontario Power Generation, and encourage everyone to sign up for a free tree bundle while supplies last.”

Residents can reserve their free seedling bundles through their conservation authority’s website or social media channels. Quantities are limited, and reservations are confirmed by email. Pick-up dates are scheduled for late April and early May, and tree species may vary depending on the municipality and availability.

Looking ahead, the RRCA plans to plant 50,000 trees in 2026, while SNC aims for 90,000 trees across its watershed. For decades, both organizations have led large-scale tree planting projects in Eastern Ontario, adding millions of trees to support long-term watershed health.
