Residents and visitors in Chute-à-Blondeau have a new place to meet for breakfast, lunch, or a friendly cup of coffee.
CàB (Chute-à-Blondeau) Café officially opened on Saturday, March 23, and the place was packed.
“We’re very excited,” said owner Élisabeth Arbaud.
She moved to Chute-à-Blondeau three years ago and noticed a need in the village for a place where residents could meet. She noticed that many residents did not even know their neighbours and thought a café would help change that. There are no other retail businesses in Chute-à-Blondeau.
“A lot of people were telling me they had lived here for years and didn’t have anything,” Arbaud said.
Arbaud purchased a vacant lot on Front Road in 2022 and work later began on constructing the attractive building where CàB Café is now located. The café is open for breakfast and lunch and will be open in the evenings for certain community events. The menu emphasizes locally produced food products.
“It’s an asset for Chute-à-Blondeau and it’s an asset for the municipality,” East Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Kirby said. He cut the ribbon at the official opening of the café.
CàB Café is located at 1898 Rue Principale (Front Road/County Road 4) in Chute-à-Blondeau. The café is currently open on Mondays from 6 am to 3pm, and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 6 am to 3pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 3pm. Arbaud said hours will increase once warmer weather arrives and the terrasse at the front of the building will be open. For more information, see www.cabcafe1898.com.
