Taking place on Saturday, October 24, the Vankleek Hill Fibre Frolic—that’s fibres as in yarn, textiles, and associated needlecrafts such as quilting, knitting, sewing, and weaving, is an event which has become very much part of the fabric of life in Vankleek Hill.
Come shop for yarns, knitting needles, fabric, quilting supplies and so much more! A one-day, go-for-it opportunity to stock up on beautiful supplies to create beautiful things! Admission is free but the organizers are accepting donations to the Vankleek Hill and District Historical Society and the Higginson Tower.
According to Louise Sproule, one of the Fibre Frolic organizers, 22 vendors are participating and will be set up on the upper level of the Vankleek Hill Community Centre on Saturday. The vendors include specialty suppliers of yarn and fabric from all over Ontario and Québec, along with other related products.
The always popular swap table will return. Everyone is welcome to bring fibre-related tools of any kind for exchange at the table.
Fibre Frolickers will be able to stitch an enjoyable day together with related events taking place in Vankleek Hill.
Fibre Fête will be hosted by multidisciplinary artist Cherie Harte at the Creating Centre at 11 High Street (at the main intersection). Come and discover a playful exploration in crochet, weaving and knotting strips of upcycled fibre, textiles and found objects into fun. Basic instruction in crochet, materials and tools are provided! Participants are encouraged to bring materials and tools from home to play, experiment and create with!
A quilt show is taking place at Trinity United Church at 50 High Street from 10 am to 4 pm, hosted by the Vankleek Hill Quilters Guild.
At 95 Main Street in the Vankleek Hill Museum: Past and Present. The Vankleek Hill Historical Society will be displaying many of its textile art pieces, clothing and quilts from days gone by, as well as hosting VCI students who will be at the museum working on recycled denim projects.
From 1 pm to 3 pm, take in a free demonstration of cyanotype on fabric at Arbor Gallery, located at 103 High Street for Fibre Frolic visitors.
Also at the Arbor Gallery, visit Textilian/Textilia to see Jessica Sarrazin’s works. Sarrazin works with cyanotype photograms on fabric, with the addition of sewing to create her artworks. Her exhibition Textilian / Textilia is on until November 1. Arbor Gallery is open from 12 pm to 4 pm on October 24.
