To the Editor,
Do you think $10 is too much for a NO ALTO sign to put on your lawn? This is nothing compared to what it will cost you for the gas you will have to buy to make all the detours that will be necessary to go from point A to point B.
Do you think that all the existing roads will have an overpass for you to cross? Just like when they constructed the 417 many roads will be closed, not only the small rural roads but many major ones that you use everyday.
How much farmland will be split in two, how will farmers cross over from one side to the other?
What about the wildlife? And don’t think that because a 300 km/h train is electric you will not hear it. How will it perform in the winter?
The O-Train Confederation Line in Ottawa only goes 80 km/h and has problems every winter.
It doesn’t matter where you live, it will impact your movement at one time or another
and for some every day.
How much pollution will all of these detours produce? What about impacts on cycling and walking? When you call for an ambulance or a fire truck how much longer will they take to get to your place? How much longer will it take for your kids to get to school and back?
If you visit your aging parents every day, will you still do it?
Every house in this area and even beyond should have a sign opposing Alto.
If this train goes by it will be too late and you will have to live with it for the rest of your life.
So, what are you waiting for? BUY A SIGN and voice your opposition. They are available from individuals and organizations around the area.
