After a decade-long run, the Glengarry Artists’ Collective, known as the Collectif, opened its final exhibition at the Big Beaver Schoolhouse at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan on Saturday, August 8. Approximately 20 local artists are showcasing 55 works of art spanning a variety of styles and subjects, with the exhibition continuing through August 23.
At the vernissage, the not-for-profit and its artists welcomed numerous residents to celebrate a decade of promoting local art. Artwork filled the walls of the schoolhouse as visitors gathered for the opening. Attendees also had the opportunity to vote for their favourite work of art.
The Collectif’s President Bobi Leutschaft-Poitras, Vice President Yvonne Calloway, and Secretary Lynne Ayers described the group’s decade-long run as “mission accomplished.”
The team noted that when the Collectif began in 2016, intending to establish an artistic community and promote local art, it was the only artists’ group in Glengarry. Now, Glengarry is a hub of artistic expression with numerous groups and opportunities across the region for residents to participate.
Over the years, the Collectif has organized more than 90 events, including more than 25 art shows, highlighting Glengarry’s creative and artistic community.
The Collectif’s final show at the historic schoolhouse features a diverse collection of artwork, spanning different mediums, subjects, and artistic styles, from local landscapes and nature to more abstract and contemporary pieces.
The Collectif may be holding its final exhibition, but the artistic community it helped foster will continue beyond the group.
