Digging and rebuilding will soon begin on another section of rough street in Hawkesbury.
On June 22, Hawkesbury Council adopted a resolution setting the budget for the reconstruction of Tessier Street between Cameron Street and Tupper Street at $1,750,000 and immediately beginning the process of seeking tenders for the project.
New pavement is just one small part of the project. It also includes the rehabilitation of sanitary sewers, improvements to existing ditches, replacement or adjustment of certain fire hydrants, complete reconstruction of the roadway, and in cooperation with CN, the removal of a railroad crossing for a disused spur.
The Tessier Street project was in the 2026 Town of Hawkesbury capital budget. The Department of Public Works wanted to give greater priority to the project, especially since the reconstruction of Main Street west has been postponed to 2027 due to the Ministry of Natural Resources scheduling further cleanup of the former Canadian International Paper (CIP) site.
Lascelle Engineering, the firm already retained for the preparation of plans and specifications of the project, will also supervise the Tessier Street reconstruction project.
