A common sight at agricultural fairs is spectators trying to ensure they have a place to sit to watch events. They will place blankets, cushions, and other items on the grandstand seats to claim a section for themselves. The President of the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society says spectators who do that at the Vankleek Hill Fair, do so at their own risk.
“Our rules are no reserved seating. If they put a blanket down and walk away, it is at their own risk,” said Amanda Cowan.
That means if spectators leave items on grandstand seats in hope of reserving a place to sit for an event taking place later in the day, there is no guarantee that they will have that place to sit. The only way that would work is if they remained with their items until the event begins.
“If they’d like to sit with their blanket, no problem at all,” Cowan said.
