Get ready to make a splash this summer with Champlain Library’s TD Summer Reading Club (SRC)! This year’s theme, Dive In! invites children and families to plunge into a summer filled with books, activities, and fun.
The adventure begins at our Kick-Off Event at the library in Vankleek Hill on June 25 from 3:30–5:00 pm. Families can drop in to register for SRC and take part in a special scavenger hunt along Main Street to help kick off the season. Participants can also pick up their reading booklet, stickers, event calendar, and other program materials. Can’t make it that day? No problem, registration will remain open throughout the summer. Although, kids who register before July 11 will be entered for a chance to win an inflatable backyard swimming pool!
Open to children ages 0–13, the Summer Reading Club encourages kids of all reading levels to keep reading during the summer months. Research shows that regular reading helps prevent the “summer slide,” when reading skills can decline over school holidays.
This year, we’re also introducing special Dive In Book Bags. Each bag is built around a theme (such as sharks, mermaids) and contains books, a film, a game, activity sheets, and a STEM activity. Book Bags are available in both English and French.
Throughout July and August, families can also enjoy our popular outdoor Storytimes and Storywalks in local parks. These events combine reading, movement, and fresh air, making them a great way to enjoy stories together as a family.
To wrap up the festivities, Summer Reading Club members will be invited to our end-of-summer Beach Party at L’Orignal Beach. We’ll celebrate a summer of reading with prizes, games and activities by the water.
So, dive in! Cast off from the shore of boredom, explore uncharted worlds, and discover treasures hidden between the pages of a good book. For a full schedule of events, visit bc-cl.ca/events.
