Less than three weeks before his 107th birthday, Claude Guy Lalonde of Hawkesbury died on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21. He was the father of two, a grandfather, a great grand-father and also a great-great grandfather.
Lalonde died due to natural causes. He would still mow the grass around his house at 97. Lalonde stopped driving at age 100 and lived in his own home until he was 101 and then moved to the Prescott and Russell Residence.
“It’s certainly bittersweet. We were blessed to have him for so long,” said his grand-daughter Manon Ouellette.
Lalonde was born in Hawkesbury on July 12, 1919. He served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during World War Two in England, France, The Netherlands, and Germany.
Claude Guy Lalonde had the distinction of being the oldest member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 472 in Hawkesbury.
