A new musical is coming to Vankleek Hill this June, offering audiences a fresh and heartfelt take on the classic story of Pinocchio. Produced by High and Main Productions, Pinocchio: A New Musical will premiere at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute on June 13.
The production features a book by Konstantine Malakos and music and lyrics by Ben Tremblay. Through live puppetry, original music, and a whimsical cast of characters, the show explores themes of belonging, bravery, and what it truly means to be “real.”
Malakos said he has been excited to see the progress of the production and the support surrounding it.
“We have such an incredible group of people working on this,” he said. “The cast, crew, volunteers, and everyone in the community have been amazing. Seeing so much support for local theatre and for this production has been really special.”
Tremblay said audiences can expect a score inspired by both folk music and traditional musical theatre.
“We have an amazing cast and crew who have put so much hard work into bringing you this production,” said Tremblay. “I hope you come to see our show!”
Actor Joan Gottman, who plays Pinocchio, said bringing the beloved character to life has been an exciting experience.
“The creative process so far has been so much fun,” Gottman said. “We look forward to guiding the audience through Pinocchio’s adventurous journey toward truth and bravery.”
The show runs June 13–15 and June 20–22, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children, or $50 for a family of four. Tickets are available online through High and Main Productions or in person at The Review office in Vankleek Hill.
