The Nation Municipality has announced that nominations for the 2026 municipal election opened on May 1.

Nominations can be filed by appointment during regular office hours from May 1 to August 20, and on Nomination Day, August 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Municipal Council Positions

The following positions are open for nomination:

  • Mayor (elected at large)
  • Councillor – Ward 1 (St-Bernardin and Fournier area)
  • Councillor – Ward 2 (St-Isidore, Riceville and St-Rose area)
  • Councillor – Ward 3 (St-Albert area)
  • Councillor – Ward 4 (Séguinbourg area)
  • Councillor – Ward 5 (Limoges North area)
  • Councillor – Ward 6 (Forest Park and Limoges South area)

Candidates must submit a completed nomination paper (Form 1), along with 25 endorsement signatures from eligible voters (Form 2), and the required fee:

  • $200 for mayor
  • $100 for councillor

Payments can be made by cash, debit or certified cheque payable to The Nation Municipality. Candidates must also provide identification, and all forms must include original signatures and be filed in person by the candidate or an authorized agent.

  • If not enough candidates are nominated, submissions will reopen for vacant positions on August 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Voting period runs from October 21 to October 26, 2026
  • Election day is Monday, October 26, 2026
  • The term of office runs from November 15, 2026, to November 14, 2030
