On Monday, April 27, North Glengarry Council unanimously designated the Glengarry Renaissance Festival as a municipally significant event. The designation is needed to support the festival organizers’ application for a Special Occasion Permit (SOP) from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

The May 30 and 31 event at the Maxville Sports Complex is an annual community event celebrating historical culture, arts, music, and local heritage. It features period-themed performances, demonstrations, vendor markets, and family-friendly activities. The festival attracts residents and visitors to the municipality and contributes to community life and the local economy.

Organizers of the festival advised council that they intend to apply for an SOP to allow controlled service of alcohol during the event. Under AGCO regulations, confirmation that the event is municipally significant is required as part of the SOP application process.

North Glengarry Director of Community Services Stephanie MacRae confirmed that the designation does not imply municipal sponsorship, financial support, or operational responsibility. It also does not exempt the event organizers from meeting all regulatory requirements.
