Saint-Pierre-Apôtre Parish in Hawkesbury is presenting the first edition of its community golf tournament, taking place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Hawkesbury Golf and Curling Club. This event aims to bring people together while highlighting an important part of the region’s local heritage.

Following a devastating fire in 1924, Saint-Pierre-Apôtre Church was rebuilt in 1926. Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of history, resilience, and identity for the Francophone community.

In 2026, the parish proudly marks the 100th anniversary of its reconstruction, a meaningful milestone that invites the community to celebrate and preserve this historic landmark.

The golf tournament is part of a broader effort to unite the community around a shared heritage. Funds raised will support ongoing maintenance and restoration projects, including the stone façade, bell towers, and accessibility improvements.

The parish is honoured to welcome Bob Hartley as honorary chair of the event. A well-known figure in the hockey world, Bob Hartley began his coaching career with the Hawkesbury Hawks. He went on to achieve great success in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a head coach, including winning the Stanley Cup.

Today, he continues his coaching career internationally, leading a team in Russia currently competing in the playoffs. His involvement reflects both his strong ties to the community and his commitment to supporting local initiatives.

More than just a sporting event, this tournament is a celebration of shared history, community pride, and a commitment to preserving a meaningful landmark for future generations.

Bob Hartley est président d’honneur du tournoi du golf paroissiale

La paroisse Saint-Pierre-Apôtre de Hawkesbury de lancer la toute première édition de son tournoi de golf communautaire, qui se tiendra le mardi 28 juillet 2026 au Club de Golf de Hawkesbury. Cet événement rassembleur vise à mettre en valeur un pilier important du patrimoine local tout en mobilisant la communauté autour d’un projet porteur.

Construite à la suite de l’incendie de 1924, l’église Saint-Pierre-Apôtre a été reconstruite en 1926. Elle représente aujourd’hui un symbole fort d’histoire, de résilience et d’identité pour la communauté francophone de la région. En 2026, nous soulignons le 100e anniversaire de sa reconstruction, une occasion unique de célébrer ce lieu emblématique et de contribuer à sa préservation pour les générations futures.

Le tournoi de golf s’inscrit dans cette volonté de rassembler la communauté autour d’un héritage commun. Les fonds amassés serviront à soutenir les travaux d’entretien et de restauration de l’église, notamment la façade de pierre, les clochers et l’accessibilité des installations.

La paroisse a l’honneur d’accueillir comme président d’honneur Bob Hartley, figure bien connue du monde du hockey. Originaire de la région, Bob Hartley a notamment été entraîneur des Hawks de Hawkesbury au début de sa carrière. Il a ensuite connu une carrière remarquable dans la Ligue nationale de hockey (LNH), où il a été entraîneur-chef et a remporté la Coupe Stanley.

Aujourd’hui, il poursuit son parcours à l’international en dirigeant une équipe de hockey en Russie, qu’il accompagne actuellement en séries éliminatoires. Sa présence à titre de président d’honneur témoigne de son attachement à la communauté et de son désir de contribuer à la mise en valeur de son patrimoine.

Ce tournoi se veut bien plus qu’un événement sportif : il s’agit d’une célébration de notre histoire collective, de notre fierté locale et de notre engagement envers un lieu qui a traversé le temps.
