On Saturday, April 25, in honour of Earth Day, several members of the Vankleek Hill and District Nature Society (the “VKHDNS”) spent a couple of hours collecting litter along the Prescott–Russell Recreational Trail and Highway 34.
The volunteers were pleased to find the Recreational Trail largely free of debris. Consequently, most of the cleanup efforts focused on the ditches along Highway 34.
Sadly, many ditches around the area continue to be treated as wintertime dumping grounds, with refuse reappearing as soon as the snow melts. It is a reminder that simply bringing waste home for proper disposal would go a long way in keeping our community beautiful.
Every group that participates in spring cleanup helps make a meaningful difference, and the VKHDNS was proud to contribute to this year’s efforts.
