Grenville-sur-la-Rouge Council has awarded a two-year contract for its municipal septic tank pumping program, selecting Fosses Septiques Miron as the lowest bidder. On Tuesday, April 14, Council approved the $443,299 plus applicable taxes contract, which will cover service for 2026 and 2027.

Three other companies submitted bids, with prices ranging up to $624,550.

Under the agreement, the 2027 portion of the contract will be subject to an annual adjustment tied to Québec’s Consumer Price Index, as outlined in the tender documents.

The municipal septic pumping program is a standardized service administered by the municipality to ensure compliance with provincial environmental regulations governing wastewater disposal for isolated dwellings. Rather than requiring individual residents to arrange service, the municipality coordinates pumping on a scheduled basis across its territory.

Septic systems serving permanent residences must be emptied every two years, while those at seasonal properties are serviced every four years. By managing the program centrally, the municipality ensures all properties meet minimum maintenance requirements aimed at protecting groundwater and preventing system failures.

Participation in the program is mandatory for affected residents, with costs billed through municipal taxation rather than paid at the time of service.

Council unanimously approved the contract without discussion.
