On Monday, April 13, North Glengarry Council awarded a contract for its annual gravel road resurfacing program, with work expected to address damage caused by the spring thaw. The 2026 gravel program tender was awarded to A.L. Blair Construction for $376,220 plus HST.
The work includes grading to eliminate potholes and washboarding, placing new gravel where needed, and compacting the surface to improve stability. By addressing freeze-thaw defects early in the year and following a defined multi-year re-gravelling and dust control cycle, municipalities can improve safety and driving comfort while reducing reactive maintenance and preserving the underlying granular structure.

Director of Public Works Timothy Wright said the program is intended to restore proper road crown and drainage, prepare roads for increased summer traffic, and support the application of dust control treatments later in the season.
The township received three bids for the project, with A.L. Blair Construction submitting the lowest. GIP Properties bid $409,500, while Cornwall Gravel submitted a bid of $448,500.
Wright recommended the contract be awarded to A.L. Blair, citing competitive pricing, access to multiple aggregate sources, and the company’s ability to meet production targets and timelines aligned with the township’s spring maintenance schedule.
“This is our yearly gravel tender, and we received favourable results, approximately $18,000 under budget. We’re doing the top half of the township this year, and most of the roads up there will receive a good gravel scheme,” Wright said.
The approved contract comes in approximately $18,780 under budget, with funding allocated through the township’s capital budget.
Council unanimously approved the contract without further discussion.
