Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation Member of Parliament (MP) Stéphane Lauzon says the proposed Alto high-speed rail project remains in its early stages, as residents continue to raise concerns.

“I want to acknowledge the concerns I’m hearing from residents. When large infrastructure projects are discussed, it’s normal for people to have questions,” Lauzon said.

Lauzon emphasized that the project is still in the consultation and planning phase, noting that “no final route has been approved, and no land decisions have been made.”

He added that any major transportation initiative must undergo rigorous reviews, with “community input, including from municipalities, landowners, and Indigenous communities” playing an essential role.

Addressing concerns about expropriation, Lauzon said it should not be viewed as an immediate risk.

“I want to reassure residents that expropriation is not a first step, nor is it taken lightly. It is always a last resort, governed by strict legal frameworks and safeguards.”

“At this stage,” Lauzon said, “discussions are about gathering information, understanding impacts, and hearing concerns, not making decisions about individual properties.”

He encouraged residents to remain involved as the process continues.

“I encourage residents to stay engaged and continue sharing their concerns with Alto and with my office,” Lauzon said.

“As consultations continue, I will keep working to ensure people have clear information and a meaningful voice every step of the way.”
