After being closed in both directions, a busy bridge in Brownsburg is now open, but with a reduction to one lane.

On December 30, 2025, the Québec Ministère des transports et de la mobilité durable (MTMD) announced that the Pont Alexander-McGibbon bridge on rue des Érables would be open to traffic, but with a reduction to one lane. Two-way traffic is being controlled by stop signs at each end of the bridge.

On December 29, 2025, the town of Brownsburg-Chatham announced that the Québec Ministère des transports et de la mobilité durable (MTMD) had decided to immediately close the bridge to all traffic after municipal staff had found a hole in the structure and that pieces of concrete had fallen into rivière de l’Ouest underneath.

On December 30, an MTMD engineer was to visit the site and determine further steps.

The town of Brownsburg-Chatham is urging the MTMD to replace the Alexander McGibbon bridge. The lane reduction on the bridge follows the recent opening of a temporary bridge on rue Prinicipale in Brownsburg to replace the now closed Pont Henri-Raby bridge which closed late in 2024 due to its extremely unsafe condition.
