The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has approved a municipal restructuring proposal to transfer a portion of land from The Nation Municipality to the Municipality of Casselman. This territory, located east of Casselman, includes the wastewater treatment system, which will now fall fully within Casselman’s municipal boundaries.
Effective January 1, 2026, the properties affected by this restructuring will be under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Casselman, while ownership of the lands remains unchanged.
This decision follows a rigorous public process, which included consultations with First Nations communities as well as a formal public meeting held on March 20, 2025.
“This process stems from the recommendations outlined in Casselman’s Water and Wastewater Master Plan. As a responsible municipality, we must ensure that critical infrastructure is located within our own jurisdiction,” said Casselman Mayor Geneviève Lajoie.
She assured residents that there are currently no plans for major expansions requiring additional land.
“Should the need arise in the future, all options will be carefully evaluated before any expansion of the wastewater treatment system is considered,” Lajoie said.
Residents will experience no change in their daily services.
