High & Main Productions, the new local theatre group for Vankleek Hill and the surrounding area, is excited to announce its first production, Beneath the Surface, an evening of two one-act plays to be mounted at the end of November.
“Beneath the Surface brings together two ground-breaking one-act plays that expose the truths we keep hidden beneath polite society,” noted Konstantine Malakos, the plays’ Director and Co-Director of the theatre company.
“The Zoo Story (1959) and Overtones (1915) together create a bold evening of theatre about masks, manners, and the primal truths we hide.”
Call for auditions
Auditions began at the Creating Centre in Vankleek Hill on Sunday, September 14. The Zoo Story requires two male actors, one aged 20s to 30s and one aged 30s to 50s. Overtones calls for four female actors, all aged 30s to 50s. Rehearsals will take place once to twice weekly, dates to be negotiated based on cast and director availabilities. No previous acting experience is needed, and scripts will be provided for a cold read.
“What we will be looking for is your energy, openness, and willingness to play,” added Malakos. To book an audition slot or to learn more, please email [email protected] as soon as possible. Please state if you have any accessibility needs.
“This evening pairs two theatrical landmarks: Albee’s searing realism and Gerstenberg’s bold, feminist experimentation,” he continued. It’s a rare chance for actors to sink their teeth into plays that are both historically significant and startlingly relevant in 2025. With intimate casts, rich character work, and a supportive community setting, these plays are perfect for actors eager to stretch themselves.”
Become involved
High and Main Productions is also looking to fill one Member-at-large position on its board and for a graphic designer to help shape the company’s branding and logo. Both positions are voluntary and will add depth to the current administration. To learn more or to volunteer, please email [email protected].
