Days and days of detours are coming to Hawkesbury as a major rehabilitation project is about to begin on a busy bridge.
On Tuesday, August 12, rehabilitation work will begin on the Cécile Bridge, located on Main Street West near the McGill Street intersection. The work is expected to continue until November. Main Street West will be closed between McGill Street and Geneviève Street beginning at midnight, on Tuesday.
The official detour route for vehicles and heavy trucks follows McGill Street from Main Street and County Road 17 to County Road 4.
The Town of Hawkesbury is reminding drivers to plan an alternate route if they need to drive into the downtown area or to the Long Sault Bridge from the west. All businesses in the construction area will remain open and Main Street West will be open to local traffic for access to those businesses.
The Cécile Bridge will remain open to pedestrians, but access may be temporarily restricted.
