A Brownsburg-Chatham man was arrested after attempting to evade police and crashing his vehicle.

At around 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, Sûreté du Québec officers attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Montée la Branche in Brownsburg-Chatham. The driver was traveling at 105 kilometres per hour in a 70 kilometres per hour zone. As the officers activated their emergency lights, the driver accelerated and entered a wooded road, where he was lost from view. The officers attempted to follow him, but the road was impassable. They walked along the wooded road and found the truck, which had left the road and struck a tree. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle. The suspect was located a few moments later by the officers.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Brownsburg-Chatham, was arrested and taken to the police station in Lachute. He was later released. He will be due back in court at a later date. He could face charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving, and fleeing. His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.
