The Town of Hawkesbury is going ahead with the development of a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

On Monday, June 23, council adopted a motion to award the contract for the plan to Sierra Planning and Management Inc. at a cost of $70,000 plus sales tax, which was the exact amount allocated for the plan in the 2025 municipal budget.

Mayor Robert Lefebvre noted that Sierra was the firm selected in 2019 for the development of the plan, specifically for Chenail Island and Confederation Park. The new plan will be comprehensive for all the parks and recreation facilities provided by the town.

Councillor Jeanne Charlebois noted the popularity of facilities such as the Robert Hartley Sports Complex and expressed hope for feedback from residents at public meetings.

According to a report prepared by Recreation and Tourism Coordinator Ken St-Denis, the plan will guide the management and development of recreation facilities, programs, infrastructure, resources, and investments over the next 15 years. The Master Plan process will evaluate the current state of recreation in Hawkesbury and plan for a future that aligns with the community’s values and needs.

The Town of Hawkesbury anticipates the Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be completed by April 2026.
