The Municipality of Casselman has awarded its first-ever Community Service Medallions.
On Monday, June 23, the medallions were presented to Aurore Crann for her dedication in honoring the contributions of Casselman’s veterans on Remembrance Day for more than 25 years. Félix St-Denis also received a Community Service Medallion for his unwavering commitment to Franco-Ontarian arts and culture.
The medallions were presented as part of the Municipality’s new Community Recognition Policy.
This medallion is intended to honor residents who have made outstanding contributions to the community in various fields such as arts, community service, economy, education, environment, public health, innovation, leadership, sports, and values.
Recipients are nominated by members of the public and selected by a dedicated review committee.
“Thanks to volunteers, we feel connected. We feel like we belong. Recognizing their efforts is a way to thank them, but also to inspire others. By celebrating those who give, we show that every small act matters — and that together, we can build something strong, caring, and lasting,” said Casselman Mayor Geneviève Lajoie.
Crann expressed her deep appreciation for veterans.
“We must never forget the role of veterans in achieving peace. I’ve been organizing the Remembrance Day event in Casselman for over 25 years because it’s something I truly care about.”
St-Denis emphasized the importance of teamwork.
“Throughout my life, I’ve been surrounded by incredible teams who helped bring dreams to life. I accept this recognition on behalf of all the volunteers who’ve worked with me — whether through FESFO, L’Écho d’un peuple, or with students at the Eastern Ontario Catholic School Board. It’s by working together that we succeed!” St-Denis said.
