A Navan area resident has been fined after it was determined he was trading in livestock without a licence.
The Regulatory Compliance Unit (RCU) of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) received a complaint alleging that Dennis Bakker was dealing cattle in Ontario without the required licence under the Livestock and Livestock Products Act (LLPA).
In March 2024, Ministry investigators determined that Bakker was unlicensed as a livestock dealer and was actively dealing in cattle at the Ottawa Livestock Exchange in Greely.
Bakker pled guilty to the offence before Justice of the Peace Maryse Marie France Genest on May 15, 2025, in Ottawa Provincial Offences Court. He was fined $1,000 plus the required 25-per-cent victim fine surcharge under the Provincial Offences Act, totalling $1,250.
