An artistic addition will soon be made to a public place in Hawkesbury.
On May 12, town council approved participation in the Create to Connect program, led by the La Francoderole organization and supported by the federal government. The program aims to bring Canada’s official language communities closer together through the creation of collective mural artworks by francophone and anglophone children.
The total cost of the project is $16,930, but the Create to Connect Program will cover 89 per cent ($15,190). The Town of Hawkesbury will cover the remaining 11 per cent ($1,740), in addition to expenses related to mural material. The resolution adopted by council on May 12 allows a maximum expenditure of $3,000.00 on the mural project.
The Create to Connect program is limited to just 15 municipalities per year. The initiative has two phases. The first phase is turnkey art workshops conducted in local schools or through municipal activities, and the second phase is the permanent display of the artwork in a public and accessible space, such as a municipal park or sports complex. The mural’s location in Hawkesbury will be finalized once participation is confirmed, based on artistic needs and logistical considerations.
Mayor Robert Lefebvre said the project is very affordable.
“It’s a nice gift by our youth,” remarked Councillor Jeanne Charlebois.
North Glengarry council also recently approved that municipality’s participation in the Create to Connect mural program.
