At around 3:30 p.m. on Monday May 12, Sûreté du Québec officers attempted to intercept a vehicle on rue James in Lachute. As the officers were making a U-turn to intercept it, the vehicle turned onto a one-way street and struck the curb. Officers noticed that the driver was changing places with the passenger. Police proceeded to arrest the driver, who did not cooperate, and the officers had to use physical force to subdue him. The driver was taken to hospital for a blood test. During the intervention, police seized cocaine and methamphetamine tablets.

The 37-year-old Lachute man is scheduled to return to court at a later date, at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse. He could face charges of drug-impaired driving, drug offences and obstructing a peace officer. His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, while the vehicle was seized for 30 days.

Police noted that the driver is a repeat offender for impaired driving. He also received a total of $2,812 in statements of offence and four demerit points for operating a vehicle while subject to a sanction, committing an act likely to endanger life, driving on a one-way street and putting back on the road a road vehicle in respect of which a company decision had been rendered.

The owner of the vehicle, a 63-year-old woman from Lachute, also received a total of $2,106 in fines and four demerit points for allowing a person to drive the vehicle without the appropriate class of licence, and for committing an act likely to endanger life.
