The pancakes were going like hotcakes on Sunday, May 4 in Vankleek Hill.

The annual Russell Gauley Pancake Breakfast was held at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds. All funds raised at the breakfast support the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation and its efforts to sustain oncology services at the hospital. Volunteers make the breakfast possible, with assistance from the Hawkesbury Rotary Club.

The annual breakfast began more than 30 years ago when the late Russell Gauley of Vankleek Hill organized the first event to raise money to help local cancer patients with the transportation they needed to get to Ottawa for treatment. More cancer treatments are now offered at HGH. Foundation Executive Director Erin Tabakman said chemotherapy services have expanded at the hospital and in June, HGH will begin offering treatment for bladder cancer patients.

At the breakfast, the Hawkesbury Rotary Club also presented a $3,000 donation to the HGH Foundation toward a new CPR machine for the Emergency Department at HGH.
