Conservative supporters from across the region gathered in Hawkesbury on Saturday, March 29 for the opening of Prescott-Russell-Cumberland candidate Julie Séguin’s campaign headquarters. The campaign is focused on local concerns.

Séguin is a lifelong Hawkesbury resident who has served as a municipal councillor since 2022. She also has significant experience working in the offices of Members of Parliament (MP) in Ottawa.

Séguin said she spent the first week knocking on doors in communities across the riding, including part of Orleans, Navan, Russell, Casselman, and Hawkesbury.

“We’ve really been hearing at the door that people want change,” Séguin said.

She said voters are pleased with the Conservative promise to not increase the capital gains tax and expressed concerns about the health care system.

“I love what I do every day,” Séguin told supporters.

She also showed appreciation for the help she is getting from family and friends.

“People want change. We want relief. People are burdened by taxes,” Séguin said to the audience.

“The local candidate makes the difference,” Séguin noted.

National opinion polls currently show the Conservatives under Leader Pierre Poilievre behind the Liberals with Leader Mark Carney. Séguin said she has not been watching national polls but has instead been concentrating on knocking on doors and meeting with voters.

“I focus on local,” she said.

Séguin is involved with Leadership Féminin Prescott-Russell (LFPL), a non-partisan organization that aims to get more women from Prescott-Russell elected to all levels of government. As a councillor, she has also been supportive of the Réseau des Femmes Immigrantes Francophones de Prescott-Russell (REFIF-PR), a local organization which aims to integrate immigrant Francophone women into local economic and civic life.

REFIF-PR President Marie Rosalie Sagma is very appreciative of Séguin’s encouragement of REFIF-PR’s establishment and goals.

The headquarters for Julie Séguin’s Conservative campaign is located at 975 Cameron Street in Hawkesbury.
