Prime Minister Mark Carney called a federal election on Sunday, March 23. Voting day will be Monday, April 28.
Prescott-Russell-Cumberland
Due to the redistribution of federal electoral district boundaries, this is the first election where voters in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) will vote for a Member of Parliament (MP) in the new riding of Prescott-Russell-Cumberland, which includes the former Township of Cumberland now within the City of Ottawa. Historically, Cumberland was part of the UCPR until it was transferred to the former Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton in 1969.
There is no incumbent candidate running in Prescott-Russell-Cumberland. Francis Drouin, who represented the riding as a Liberal MP since 2015 is not seeking re-election.
Among the parties which have nominated candidates, on January 23, tech entrepreneur, writer, and speaker Giovanna Mingarelli, originally of Rockland, was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate for the riding.
Deborah Perrier is the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) candidate. Perrier’s previous experience is in nursing and public service.
Just hours after the campaign began on Sunday, March 23, Hawkesbury town councillor Julie Séguin informed The Review she had been selected as the Conservative candidate in Prescott-Russell-Cumberland. Seguin has served on town council since 2022 and works in the office of an MP in Ottawa.
As of Sunday, March 23, the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Green Party had not nominated candidates in Prescott-Russell-Cumberland.
Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry
North Glengarry is now part of the new federal riding of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry. Eric Duncan, who had served as MP for the former Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry federal riding since 2019, is the nominated Conservative candidate in the new riding.
Cornwall city Councillor Sarah Good is the Liberal candidate for the riding. The PPC has nominated Cameron Tuck as its candidate.
As of March 23, the NDP and Greens did not yet have candidates in Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry.
Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation
The riding of Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation is largely unchanged in this federal election.
Former Brownsburg-Chatham Councillor and entrepreneur Martin Charron is the Conservative candidate for the riding.
The Green candidate is retired physician and community volunteer Bertha Fuchsman-Small.
Martin Héroux is attempting a role in the political theatre. The actor and comedian is the nominated Bloc Québécois candidate.
Incumbent MP Stéphane Lauzon, who was first elected in 2015, is seeking another term as the Liberal candidate.
The PPC candidate is Lindsey Therrien, a mother of four and part-time university student.
The NDP had not nominated a candidate in Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation as of March 23.
Election coverage
