According to the town of Brownsburg-Chatham, the Québec government plans to install a temporary bridge to replace the Henri-Raby bridge on Rue Principale in Brownsburg.
The bridge has been closed since December 5 2024, due to its severely deteriorated condition. On Friday, March 21, the Ministère des transports et mobilité durable announced a temporary bridge will be installed before summer 2025.
When the bridge was closed in December, the town of Brownsburg-Chatham objected to the lack of concrete solutions and strongly encouraged the public to submit their complaints and concerns directly to the ministry of transport. More than 600 signatories have expressed their dissatisfaction to the Ministry through a petition, in addition to forms and messages.
The temporary bridge will allow vehicles weighing 15 tons or less to alternate on one lane with the aid of a traffic signal. In addition, pedestrians will have access to a designated area, ensuring safe travel for schoolchildren, in particular.
At the same time, preparations for demolition and reconstruction of the permanent bridge are continuing and are currently in the design phase.
