Are you looking for a local opportunity to hone your creativity and learn some new skills? Arbor Gallery is offering several workshops and classes this February, all happening at their new location at 103 High Street in Vankleek Hill.
Local author of The Scottish Scrolls series K.T. Anglehart is leading two activities this month. On February 8 from 10am to noon, she is offering “Writing as Self-Discovery,” a workshop that encourages self-reflection through journalling, using such tools as oracle card readings, journalling prompts and guided storytelling to help students connect with their inner voice.
On February 11 and 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Anglehart will also be teaching a two-part introduction to creative writing class, which will help students develop their unique voice and style as well as learn the basics of story construction.
A special workshop for ages 12 years to adult is happening on February 22 from 10 am to noon, when visiting instructor Janie Renée will introduce students to shadow puppetry, outlining its history as a performance art, guiding them in the construction and manipulation of their own puppets, and ending with a short group performance. This unique workshop is made possible thanks to the assistance of MASC (www.masconline.ca), an Ottawa-based organization that helps bring cultural programming to schools and communities, and thanks to the generous sponsorship of Totem Roasters.
Finally, local business owners and artists can learn how to improve their social media presence and branding with a product photography workshop led by Emily VanderBeek on February 23 from 10am to noon. VanderBeek will teach students how to take visually appealing images that make use of props, textures, backgrounds, lighting and more.
All of these activities require pre-registration. For costs and full descriptions, visit www.arborgallery.org/events. To register, contact [email protected], or call (613) 678-6171.
