The city of Lachute is preparing for a major refurbishment of rue Principale in the downtown area.

On November 4, city council awarded contracts for engineering work and construction supervision totaling $172,050 plus taxes to Groupe CIVITAS, an engineering firm with nine offices across Québec.

Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis is hopeful the work on the street, sidewalks, and decorative trees will begin quickly in 2025.

The mayor said the rest of the project will be announced by the city shortly.

On November 4, Lachute council approved a request to the Ministère des transports for further improvements to signage and pavement markings for pedestrian crossings on avenue d’Argenteuil (Route 327) in front of Polyvalente Lavigne and Laurentian Regional High School.

Additional work on underground infrastructure was required on chemin Félix-Touchette in the Synercité industrial park area. Work on water and sewer mains took place in the area during the late summer and into the fall season. However, additional work totaling $230,834.44 plus taxes was necessary and approved by council on November 4.

Bigras-Denis said the work was required to facilitate further expansion of the industrial park.
