Another pole was recently damaged at the intersection of Main Street/County Road 10 and High Street/Highway 34 in Vankleek Hill.

According to Champlain Township, during the evening on Friday, November 8, an agricultural truck struck and broke the wooden Bell telephone pole at the northwest corner of the intersection. Champlain Township firefighters from the nearby Vankleek Hill station responded but no intervention was necessary. Hydro One was notified and the township Department of Public Works was on site at around 7 pm to assist with traffic control.

The pole was replaced on Friday evening and the traffic lights were repaired on Saturday and repairs to the Bell line were completed by Sunday.

In 2022, there were three collisions between trucks and wooden poles at the intersection. In 2023, a series of changes to stop lines, lane markings, and restrictions on right turns at red lights were implemented at the intersection to reduce the potential for further collisions.
