On Saturday, June 8, the Arbor Gallery welcomes Karole Dumont, Chief of the Métis Nation of Canada, for a book signing and presentation session. Chief Dumont will present some of her recent books, including the new graphic novel Rocking Spurs, a collective work on bullying and racism. With her habitual verve, she will talk about her inspiration and her characters. The talk will be followed by a question period and a book signing session
Karole Dumont is a bilingual Métis author, genealogist, historian, artisan, artist, public speaker, and retired public servant. From an early age, Dumont has been involved in Métis topics and causes, serving under various titles, always seeking to assert Métis identity and rights across the country. Her intolerance for racism and discrimination led her to create the Council of the First Métis People of Canada (CFPMC) with 19 other leaders who are equally committed to ensuring the justice and recognition of all Métis on Turtle Island. In 2018, the CFPMC amalgamated and became the Métis Nation of Canada (MNOC). She enjoys having benefited from the teachings of highly respected Elders and spiritual guides. She is a dedicated ambassador for the Métis people and her passion for history and genealogy often permeates her many historical novels and children’s stories.
This event will be held from 1pm to 3pm, Saturday, June 8.
Powerful artworks grace the walls to celebrate Indigenous roots
Running until June 30, the Mosaic exhibition presents the works of three talented artists, Pam Cailloux, Lise Perras and Rita Iriarte. The pieces celebrate their connection with their Indigenous roots, whether as Métis artists or, in the case of Iriarte, with her heritage from African ancestors and Venezuela’s Native peoples. The exhibition is a celebration of Canada’s multiculturalism, embracing the cultural mosaic that is the cornerstone of its identity.
All events are free throughout the month. Donations are always welcome and go to support the community art and culture mission of the Gallery. Arbor Gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 4pm. During the Summer, Saturday hours are from 10am to 4pm. Information: [email protected] or www.arborgallery.org.
