Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) has received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Health to acquire a CT scanner. This development will enhance local healthcare and improve patient care in the area.
A CT scanner uses X-rays and computer technology to create detailed images of the body. It is essential for diagnosing many conditions, including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, traumatic injuries, and infections. With this technology, HGMH plans to provide quicker and more accurate diagnoses, leading to better treatment outcomes.
“Having a CT Scanner on-site will dramatically enhance our diagnostic capabilities,” said HGMH President and CEO Robert Alldred-Hughes. “This approval from the Ministry is a crucial first step, but now we need the support of our community to turn this approval into reality. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference and bring us closer to our goal.”
Hospital officials say community support is essential, because CT scanners are considered capital equipment and therefore not directly funded by the province.
For this reason, the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation will hold fundraising events and initiatives to raise money to purchase the equipment. Donations can also be made directly through the Foundation’s website or at the hospital.
A CT scanner promises to reduce wait times, eliminate the need for patients to travel, and ensure timely access to diagnostic services.
“We are excited to embark on this fundraising journey and are confident in the generosity and support of our community,” said Pierre Vaillancourt, Foundation Chair. “Together, we can equip our hospital with the tools it needs to provide the highest standard of care.”
HGMH provides acute care, 24-hour emergency services, outpatient services, and rehabilitation to over 41,000 residents each year. The hospital’s team includes more than 180 staff members, 50 medical staff members, and 100 volunteers.
