Due to changes in provincial legislation regulating police services, The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG) has a new Police Services Board.

Changes at the provincial level mean Police Services Boards will now be based on detachments rather than municipalities.

However, in the case of SDG, policing is overseen by the regional government rather than its six municipalities.

That legislation nullified the previous agreement between SDG and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)—but a similar model will be in place under the new agreement. The OPP will continue to bill SDG according to the same cost allocation model.

Council also approved a resolution to reappoint three existing members to the newly established board: council representatives Jamie MacDonald and Bryan McGillis, and citizen representative Jim Wertz.

The new board will also include provincial appointments, but the timing of their confirmation remains unknown. All members will also be required to undertake mandatory training provided by the province.
