For the first time in its history, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 423 in Alexandria will be competing in the Provincial Pool Tournament. The tournament will be on April 16, and hosted by a Royal Canadian Legion branch in Oshawa.
Two teams consisting of two players each, will be representing Alexandria in the one-day tournament. For the branch Sports Officer, it’s quite an honour to qualify and compete against other Legion pool players in the tournament.
“It was the second time teams from our legion went to the District Tournament and our first time going to the Provincial Tournament”, said Bruno Lalonde.
Representing the Alexandria branch is the team of Marty Doyle and Marc Mayer while the other team players are Bruno Lalonde and Robert Roy. Both teams competed recently in the Legion Zone 4 tournament, hosted by the Lancaster Royal Canadian Legion. Ten teams in a round-robin format participated in the tournament.
Both teams advanced from the Zone 4 tournament, and it was off to the District Pool Tournament, hosted by the Kingston Royal Canadian Legion. Alexandria’s two teams competed in separate divisions. Both teams defeated all competitors, winning their respective divisions and advancing to the Provincials.
Another acknowledgement for the two teams came at the conclusion of the tournament. The team of Marty Doyle and Marc Mayer were ranked #1 in the District final rankings while Bruno Lalonde and Robert Roy ranked #2.
“Winning the Zone 4 and District Pool Tournaments has put the Alexandria Legion on the map. We beat some good pool players in the two tournaments”, said Marty Doyle.
