The Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation has reached its goal of raising $830,000 to help the hospital acquire a new mammography machine. In service since February, the equipment offers new advanced 3D mammography technology which will detect many more cases of invasive breast cancer compared to the 2D technology which was previously available to HGH patients. Additionally, although compression is still necessary, the exam is more comfortable for patients.
“I can’t thank our donors enough. And I say that not only as the Executive Director of the Foundation, but also as a woman whose family has a history of breast cancer. I am one of the thousands of people who will benefit from this technology, as will my mother, my friends, my colleagues and so many others you and I both know and care about,” commented Erin Tabakman.
To celebrate the arrival of this new technology at HGH, the Foundation had a lot of fun shooting a short video with the escouade multimedia team. The video is currently available on the Foundation’s website for everyone to view.
The generosity of the community has enabled the HGH Foundation to reach 81 per cent of its total goal for the current campaign, There’s No Place Like Home. The next few months will be of great importance for the success of this campaign, which is hoped to be completed by March 2025. Another $668,000 must be raised to bring the ophthalmology and urology care to HGH for which thousands of residents in the region of Prescott-Russell must currently travel to Ottawa or Montréal.
The HGH Foundation & “There’s No Place Like Home” Campaign
The mission of the HGH Foundation is to raise funds to improve the care and services offered to the community by the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital.
There’s No Place Like Home is an initiative to help provide the highest priority medical equipment so that HGH can add and further develop programs and services in key areas such as ophthalmology, advanced mammography, cardiology, urology and endoscopy.
