A Brownsburg-Chatham family is without a home after a devastating fire on Tuesday, March 19.

The couple who lived in the house and their young son were not home at the time. The family is also expecting a new baby in the near future. Unfortunately, the family’s dog did not survive the fire.

According to Brownsburg-Chatham Director of Fire Services Jason Neil, the call to the home on Rue des Pommetiers was received at 1:28 p.m. Tuesday. Due to their close proximity to the neighbourhood, firefighters from Lachute were the first to respond and discovered the fire had already entered the roof of the house. Neil said the fire started in the garage of the house. Firefighters from Saint-André-d’Argenteuil also assisted the Brownsburg-Chatham and Lachute firefighters.

Brownsburg-Chatham Mayor Kévin Maurice was particularly saddened by the fire. He said the residents of the house are his best friends and he and his family will be helping them.
