Residents of Champlain and Alfred and Plantagenet are wanted for a new board which will oversee the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Ontario’s new Community Safety and Policing Act establishes Police Services Boards for all OPP detachments across the province. Previously, only municipalities which had a special contract with the OPP had Police Services Boards as a form of local oversight by councils, citizens, and provincial appointees.

The Township of Champlain and the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet are seeking a resident from each township as representatives on the Hawkesbury Detachment Police Services Board.

Interested candidates must:

  • Be a resident of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet or a resident of the Township of Champlain.
  • Pass a comprehensive police record check.
  • Understand the role of a police services board.
  • Be involved in their community.
  • Be bilingual (French/English) and have good communication skills.

Interested parties must complete the application form Champlain Community Representative for Hawkesbury OPP Detachment Board and submit the duly completed form, no later than April 5, 12 p.m., 2024. Boards and Committees page.

The Town of Hawkesbury has already appointed its members to the Hawkesbury Detachment Police Services Board. On March 4, council appointed Mayor Robert Lefebvre and Jacques Quesnel. Both are members of the existing Hawkesbury Police Services Board, and Lefebvre has served as its chair.
