Due to the solar eclipse, school authorities serving Argenteuil have made Monday, April 8, a Professional Development Day.

There will be no classes that day for all students in the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and the Centre de services scolaire de la Rivière du Nord.

School boards in Eastern Ontario had already made April 8 a Professional Development Day.

In the afternoon on April 8, the moon will align perfectly between the earth and sun, causing total darkness for most of the region for a few minutes, and partial darkness for a few hours. Viewing eclipses with the naked eye is dangerous due to the brightness of the sun. Looking up into the sky at an eclipse can seriously damage eyes. School authorities have decided to cancel classes on April 8 to prevent the risk of children looking up at the sun to view the eclipse.
