The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Branches and Ladies’ Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation have made a generous donation to the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation. The $10,000 donation will contribute to the purchase of the new 3D mammography technology, that will soon be in use at HGH. This wonderful donation will have a direct impact on patient care by bringing significant improvement to the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.

The Royal Canadian Legion Charitable Foundation is supported by all Legion Branches & Ladies’ Auxiliaries in Ontario, including Branch 472, Hawkesbury, through donations from their poppy campaigns and fundraising by the auxiliaries. The cheque was presented by members of the Hawkesbury branch.

The HGH Foundation would like to express its sincere thanks to the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Branches and Ladies’ Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation for their contribution to important mammography equipment for HGH and for their many years of generous support of our hospital.

Current Fundraising Priority: Expansion of HGH’s Ophthalmology and Urology Programs

The HGH Foundation’s mission is to raise funds in order to improve the care and services offered to the community by the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH).

Thanks to the expansive and accessible layout of our new hospital, HGH is further expanding its ophthalmology and urology programs to meet our region’s demand for procedures that currently require redirecting patients to other hospitals.

Over the next year, the HGH Foundation will continue to focus its efforts on supporting these two key areas, to help patients avoid all the inconvenience, cost and discomfort that comes with travelling to Ottawa or Montreal.

The second phase of the ophthalmology program aims to raise $500,000 to purchase advanced testing and diagnostic equipment needed to provide services related to glaucoma and retinal diseases as well as the treatment of macular degeneration.

The expansion of the urology program will reduce painful wait times and diagnose diseases much more quickly. An amount of $300,000 will enable the purchase of the equipment necessary for the expansion of the surgical program and make it possible to treat patients with kidney stones right here at HGH.
