Police and firefighters responded to reports of a body in the Ottawa River beneath the Long Sault Bridge near the Grenville side during the afternoon of Sunday, February 4. However, no evidence of a body in the river was found.

According to Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay of the Sûreté du Québec, police officers were at the scene from before 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Police officers and Grenville village firefighters were on the ground searching below the bridge on the narrow strip of land between the main river and the canal. Tremblay said dangerous ice conditions on the river made it impossible to do a search using their boat. Police used a drone to carefully search over the river and along the bank but found no evidence. Tremblay said that based on what police officers and firefighters saw, nothing could make them believe there was a body in the river in the area.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Hawkesbury firefighters provided assistance on top of the Long Sault Bridge during the situation.
