To the Editor:

I fully support the idea of creating a heritage inventory of properties, farms, barns, and events in Champlain township. This heritage inventory would simply record all of our heritage assets and be a tool for everyone as well as being a tourism asset.

Such a LIST of heritage properties is NOT a heritage designation, which is what scares so many people with concerns about controlling what changes or renovations can be done to the interior or exterior of a building, would be a great asset for Champlain.

In L’Orignal, Patrimoine L’Orignal-Longueuil Heritage has installed 48 historical plaques in front of historical buildings and homes. We are pleased to see people; locals and tourists read those plaques and learn about our history.

To work on this registry, there would be no consultants hired, but rather, we would use the two heritage groups we currently have as suggested by the Senior Planner, Jennifer Laforest, Patrimoine Longueuil-L’Orignal Heritage and The Vankleek Hill and District Historical Society.

Our history is important and historic places need to be recorded for current and future generations.
