There’s a new sign in front of the Kilmar cement plant in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, but do not expect the facility to return to production anytime soon.

German company Heidelberg Materials acquired the site from Colacem in February of 2018. According to company spokesman Jeff Sieg, at that time the company was known as Lehigh Hanson and the Kilmar plant was operated the site as Lehigh Cement. Earlier in 2023, the company changed its name to Heidelberg Materials as part of a global rebranding initiative. The ownership of the plant has not changed since 2018.

Cement production at Kilmar was discontinued in 2019. Heidelberg Materials has no immediate plans to reopen the plant. Instead, it is being used as a storage and distribution point for cement produced at Heidelberg’s Picton plant in Prince Edward County, Ontario.
