The Hawkesbury Hawks kept their home fans on the edge of their seats for two nights last weekend, falling 3-2 to the Ottawa Junior Senators on Friday night and then winning 3-2 on Saturday over the Brockville Braves.

The weekend split at Hawkesbury’s Robert Hartley Sports Complex leaves the Hawks still sitting in third place in the Central Canada Junior Hockey League’s (CCHL) Yzerman Division, with a record of 11-7-1-3, for 26 points. Ottawa and Navan are tied for first in the division with 34 points each, with Navan having played one more game.

This week’s games

Hawkesbury faces a tough test this week, with four games on tap – three of them on the road. The exam begins on Wednesday, November 30, with a rematch in Ottawa against the Junior Senators.

Hawkesbury is at home on Friday to face the 12-7-1-1 Renfrew Wolves, who sit in second place in the CCHL’s Robinson Division. Hawkesbury travels to Carleton Place on Sunday, December 4, for an afternoon matchup with the Canadians (11-7-0-1). The week wraps up on Tuesday, December 6, when the Hawks face the 73’s in Kemptville (7-11-3-0).

Saturday, November 26 – Hawkesbury Hawks 3 Brockville Braves 2

Hawkesbury netminder Dekon Randell-Snow was the star on Saturday night at The Bob, stopping 48 shots, as the Hawks edged the Brockville Braves 3-2.

Alex Fournier scored the winning goal on a powerplay with just over five minutes left in the game to allow Hawkesbury to escape with a win at home, despite being badly outshot over three periods. Derek Larocque and Remi Gelinas scored second period goals to stake the Hawks to a 2-1 lead after two, before Brockville’s Luke Tchor tied the game midway through the third.

Randell-Snow was named the game’s first star for his outstanding performance in net, while Fournier’s game-winning goal earned him second star honours.

With the win, Hawkesbury improved to 11-7-1-3 on the season. Brockville, fell to 10-12-0-0 after suffering the team’s second one-goal loss of the weekend.

Friday, November 25 – Ottawa Junior Senators 3 Hawkesbury Hawks 2

Landon Brownlee had two goals in a losing effort, as the Hawkesbury Hawks fell 3-2 at home to the Ottawa Junior Senators.

The Hawks staged a comeback after Ottawa’s Liam Lucas scored his third of the season at 4:53 of the third to put the Junior Senators up 2-0. A shorthanded goal by Brownlee just before the midway point of the period got Hawkesbury back into the game.

Braxton Ross scored at 13:20 of the third to restore Ottawa’s two-goal lead, but Brownlee would get that one back with just under five minutes remaining in the game. That was as close as Hawkesbury would get however, despite pulling goaltender Dimitri Pelekos for an extra attacker in the final minutes.

With the win Ottawa improved to 15-4-2-0 on the year. Pelekos made 30 saves in the loss, as Hawkesbury fell to 10-7-1-3. Hawkesbury fired 42 shots at Ottawa netminder Connor Shibley.
