On Sunday October 23, Caitlin Wright, of Atelier Delska Dressmaking in Alexandria, took an attentive audience at the Vankleek Hill Museum from medieval times to Victorian times – in creating the basic patterns for sewing reproduction historic women’s wear.
Wright made it all look so easy, step by step. To demonstrate early techniques, Wright brought examples of her own 19th-century reproduction dresses. To complement the event, the Vankleek Hill Museum also brought three dresses from its collection: an 1882 wedding dress; a 1912 wedding dress; and a 1920s dinner dress.
The delightful afternoon was organized by Andrea Belcham of Indigo Hill Dye Studio in Vankleek Hill.
