The famed Higginson Round Barn south of Vankleek Hill was a busy place late last week, as the winning bidders from an online auction earlier in the week visited the site to pick up their items.

Multiple items from the historic barn and adjacent large farmhouse were sold off. The property, including the round barn and farmhouse, was sold to local resident Lyman Howes.

The Higginson Round Barn – located on County Road 34, about halfway between Vankleek Hill and Hawkesbury – was designed and built by Thomas Tweed Higginson between 1893 and 1894. The round barn, which was considered a technological innovation of its time, was designed to facilitate the feeding of animals from above. It is one of only a handful of round barns remaining in Canada.
