The Municipality of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge wants to improve its attractiveness as a place of employment.

On September 13, council approved a resolution previously agreed upon in a closed session to find ways of improving conditions for blue-collar municipal workers. The municipality has faced challenges in attracting and retaining employees, due to the competitive labour market and shortage of workers.

“It’s happening all across the country,” Mayor Tom Arnold commented.

He would not specify exactly which improvements need to be made, but negotiations will take place between municipal administration and employees.

Director-General Marc Beaulieu said a similar series of changes were previously made involving municipal white-collar management.

The municipality is also being mindful of additional expenses, Arnold said, as the time gets closer for the development of the 2023 budget. He is anticipating increased expenses associated with salaries and the cost of materials.
